Why Must Male Candidates Call Their Female Opponents Whores? And Why Does Palin Support Them?

Oops! Here comes a deleted tweet…

Joe Miller has deleted this incredibly stupid tweet, most likely because it calls his female opponent a whore. It linked to a Daily Caller story about Murkowski possibly running as a Libertarian if/when she loses the close primary held three days ago, the results of which are still being counted.

As Jezebel asks, does Sarah Palin condone such language from her prize candidate?

As previously discussed, there’s a very obvious reason why misogynists delight in calling women ‘whores’: ‘whore’ and its cognates are intended to put women in our place by reminding us of our proper function.

None of this will bother Palin, of course, who picks up feminism and puts it down when it suits her. More to come on that.

Didn’t your read up? He meant the Libertarian party. See it’s the women who think they’re being called whores! It’s always about them, them them.

Also, I’d like to note, while you and Jimmah were crossing the Atlantic and settling in, there were quite a few blow ups, blowing the “you and Jimmah are the trolls” line.

I understand and fully agree with the point you are making.

There are also male prostitutes and whores as well.

There is a very real condition, that transcends gender, where a “leader” utterly, cravenly and hypocritically, sells out all the values and ideals he or she is supposed to stand for, turns his or her back on those who he or she is supposed to represent, and prostitutes themselves dishonestly for political gain.

In that context, Newt, and Sarah are both the lowest and most repugnant class of whore.

So, when the word is used in its sexist connotation, you have a very valid point. When it is used to talk about actual whores who would sell anything for their own gain, betray any trust, and for whom nothing is sacred, the word whore fits - only it is not strong enough.

This is the kind of risk Palin is taking advocating for fringe candidates. Sadly, those who would listen to Palin would simply make excuses for this guy, or pretend they didn’t read him say it and deny it happened.
